The Free Electron Laser & Utilization Section (FEL&US) of the Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT) has designed, built and successfully commissioned an Infra-red Free Electron Laser (IR-FEL), along with a commensurate user facility and other complementary facilities for materials characterization. The IR-FEL is now in regular operation in the user mode. FEL&US is also involved in R&D in areas related to FEL physics, injector linac systems, transport lines and magnets, and in materials research in the areas of magnetism and superconductivity. This includes the utilization of the IR-FEL at RRCAT.

The current research and development activities of the FEL&US are as follows:

• Development, upgrade and regular operation of the Infra-red Free Electron Laser (IR-FEL).
• Development of facilities for the utilization of Infra Red/Terahertz radiation from the IR-FEL and laboratory sources, and utilization of these facilities.
• Research on Superconducting Materials and Superconducting Radiation Detector Elements.
