  1. Opportunities at Scientific Officer Level

    1. BARC Training School at RRCAT

      The BARC Training School at RRCAT, Indore conducts one year intensive orientation course for engineering graduates and science post-graduates in Physics, and Electrical/ Electronics Engineering, with specialized courses in lasers and accelerators, to provide trained manpower in these disciplines to various units of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). The selection of the Trainee Scientific Officers is done in a centralized manner by BARC, Mumbai, for all BARC Training Schools situated in various units of the Department. The course is residential and hostel accommodation is provided to all trainees. During the training period, the trainees are entitled for a monthly stipend of ₹ 55,000 and one time book allowance of ₹ 18,000. On successful completion of the orientation course, the trainees are appointed in the grade of Scientific Officer C [Level 10 of the 7th Pay Commission]. Appointment is made at the beginning of the pay scale, with trainees getting two or three increments depending on their performance during the training course.

    2. K. S. Krishnan Research Associateship

      The Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS) constituted by the Department of Atomic Energy has a K. S. Krishnan Research Associateship (KSKRA) Programme. Under this programme candidates who hold Ph.D. degree (engineering or science) or Master's degree in Engineering (M.Tech./ M.E./ M.S.) with a minimum of 2-year R&D experience after obtaining M.Tech./ M.E./ M.S. degree, are eligible to apply. Selected candidates get opportunity to work in appropriate units of DAE having R&D programs suiting to the work experience of the selected candidates. Some of the selected candidates with experience in lasers, accelerators or synchrotron based materials science are posted at RRCAT. The selected candidates would be appointed as KSKRA for an initial period of one year, which is extendable by one more year based on his/her performance during the first year. KSKRAs are paid a monthly stipend plus additional benefits like hostel accommodation, medical coverage, and leaves. In addition to this, every candidate gets Educational Material Allowance. Any time during their second year of Associateship, subject to satisfactory performance as evaluated by the concerned DAE unit, a KSKRA may be appointed as a Scientific Officer D [Level 11 of the 7th Pay Commission] with additional increments depending upon his/her qualification, experience and performance.

  2. Opportunities at Scientific Assistant and Technician Level

    To cater to the need of scientific support staff, graduates in science and diploma holders in various engineering branches are recruited through a two-year Stipendiary Training Scheme (Category-I) and they are absorbed as Scientific Assistant-C [Level 7 of the 7th Pay Commission] after successful completion of the training in the various RRCAT activities. During the training period, they get a stipend of ₹ 9,300 per month for 1st year and ₹ 10,500 per month for 2nd year.

    Similarly, to cater to the need of technical support staff, candidates having qualification of HSC (Science) or SSC followed by ITI certificate, are recruited under a two-year Stipendiary Training Scheme (Category-II), and they are absorbed as Technician-B [Level 3 of the 7th Pay Commission] or Technician-C [Level 4 of the 7th Pay Commission] after successful completion of the training in various RRCAT activities. Appointment is made at the beginning of the pay scale, with trainees getting up to three increments depending on their performance during the training course. During the training period, they get a stipend of ₹ 6,200 per month for 1st year and ₹ 7,200 per month for 2nd year.

    In addition to above Category I & II Trainees are also entitled for one time book allowance of ₹ 1,500 for purchase of approved books pertaining to their training course. Recruitment in both categories is normally carried out through open advertisements at RRCAT website, Employment News, local and / or national newspapers as applicable.
