Synchrotron Utilization Section

The major activity of Synchrotron Utilization Section (SUS) is related to the development and utilization of the Frontends and beamlines for Indus-1 and Indus-2 synchrotron sources. The section is providing support to beamline users from universities/ national institutes to carry out their experiments on Indus beamlines. The section is engaged in various research activities related to materials science and has different facilities for growth and characterizations. Presently the section has developed, installed and commissioned four beamlines on Indus-2 and one on Indus-1, which are being used by researchers from universities and national institutes. Two more beamlines are in process of installation on Indus-2 synchrotron source and will be available soon for user experiments.

Major Activities related to beamlines and frontends
  • Support beamline users from universities and national institutes to carry out their experiments on Indus-1 and Indus-2 beamlines
  • Design and development of Frontends (whole mechanical components) and its control & interlocking systems
  • Beamline related Instrumentation
  • Software Development for beamline control and experimental setups
Major Research activities
  • Thin films and multilayers for x-ray and other applications
  • Materials for graded bandgap perovskite solar cells
  • Nano-particles for bio and environmental applications
  • Studies on Transition metal based multiferroic/ferroelectric materials
  • Determination of X-ray optical properties of various oxides and compound materials
  • Estimation of x-ray elastic constants of engineering materials
  • Research related to diffractive and refractive x-ray optical elements using x-ray lithography beamline, e-beam lithography and deep reactive ion etching systems
