Telephone exchange

Two telephone exchanges (Omni Pcx4400) are commissioned, one for laboratory area and another for residential area. They will support the voice communication network for growing RRCAT campus and its residential colony. These exchanges are identical in nature and provide digital and analog lines. They are interconnected through PRI line, which gives 30 channels. These exchanges can be controlled centrally. Five channels are provided through the exchange for Anunet voice facility. Both the exchanges have been provided with battery backup of 10 hours duration to take care of power failure.

At present 1434 telephone extensions are working in RRCAT campus.

Omni Pcx4400 is a very advanced communication server with various features like voice mail, auto attendant, centralized call accounting, centralized NMS, name based dialing, public address system, voice guide etc. It is also integrated with ADSL based DSLAM.

34 MBps MUX is installed in exchange for voice and data connectivity to BSNL, Indore. Configuration changes for all voice and data channels (RRCAT and ERNET) are routed through 34 MBps MUX.


Omni PCX 4400 Exchange

A remote shelf of Laboratory area telephone exchange was commissioned, to provide voice communication facility to new buildings. This has increased the existing capacity of telephone exchange by 448 more lines, to a new total of 1886 lines. One MDF (Main Distribution Frame) of 800 pair capacity was installed for distribution of the additional telephone lines. The laboratory area telephone exchange & residential area telephone exchanges were upgraded to new OMNI PCX operating system Release 9.1. One VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) card was installed in laboratory area telephone exchange for providing VoIP services.
