Interaction Meeting on Synchrotron Utilization

Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology, Indore

Indus-1 and Indus-2, are the India's national synchrotron radiation facilities located at Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), Indore. In order to enhance the utilization of these facilities and increase the national user base, it is planned to organize regular interaction meetings with leading scientists and researchers from different parts of the country on various topics related to the experiments on the synchrotrons.

To fulfill the requirements of the x-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy users of universities and various research laboratories of India, a micro-focus XRF spectroscopy beamline (BL-16) has been commissioned at Indus-2 with emphasis on atomic physics, fundamental parameters (FP) evaluation for quantitative X-ray fluorescence analysis, environmental, archaeological, biomedical and material science applications involving heavy metal speciation and their localization. The beamline works in the X-ray energy range 4-20 keV and offers a combination of different analytical probes, e.g. X-ray fluorescence mapping, X-ray microspectroscopy and total-external reflection fluorescence characterization.

The first interaction meeting on synchrotron based X-ray fluorescence technique is proposed to be held on 19th and 20th of March 2013. The theme of this meeting will be 'Synchrotron X-ray fluorescence and related techniques'. The programme will include lectures by experts, data analysis session and demonstration experiments on the
µ-XRF (BL-16) beamline at Indus-2.

The tentative list of speakers is:

  • Prof. Devinder Mehta, Panjab University, Chandigarh
  • Prof. Sanjiv Puri,University College of Engineering (U.Co.E), Punjabi University, Patiala
  • Prof. N M Badiger, Karnatak University, Dharwad
  • Prof. Raj Mittal Singla, Punjabi University, Patiala
  • Dr. G. S. Lodha, RRCAT, Indore
  • Dr. S. K. Aggrawal, FCD,BARC, Mumbai

We propose to have around 20 students / young researchers, who are working / interested in the area of synchrotron based X-Ray fluorescence techniques. Train fare as per rules* and local hospitality will be provided to all students (JRF and SRF) by RRCAT. All those interested, are requested to apply by email, (forwarded by their Guides, Division/Section Heads) at the earliest (before 9th March, 2013) with a brief research profile/interest to the following address :
