LCW Control System (LCWCS)

The first part of the Indus-2 control system to be commissioned was the control system for Indus-2 LCW plant. This control system facilitates the automation of the plant operation along with supervisory control and monitoring. The Low Conductivity Water (LCW) is required for cooling of various components like magnets, magnet power supplies, RF cavities and amplifiers, vacuum chambers etc. LCW plant is required to provide LCW continuously and it consists of pumps, valves, heat exchangers and cooling towers along with flow, pressure, level, conductivity & temperature monitoring devices. LCW control system controls and monitors these devices used both in the LCW plant area and in the Indus-2 ring areas.

The plant control application is developed in LabVIEW. The system monitors about 1500 parameters and provides feature of re-configurability in control actions. The Concept of event driven architecture is used in this control system. The advantage of this architecture was further realized when the number of parameters increased sigificantly to reach 1500. Various alarms from this auxiliary system are routed to the central alarm handling system. The control system fulfilled the requirement of a standalone plant control system in early phase and was later integrated in the main control system of Indus-2. This system consists of 6 ECs connected to 1 SC.

The LCW control system software follows client server architecture. The server is connected to the VME system and is placed in the respective LCW control room near the plants in Indus-1 and Indus-2. The client connected with the server and is placed in the centralzed main control room for regular monitoring by the shift crew operators. The server follows modular architecture to implement various services to realize different tasks and commands. The different services incorporated into the software and their interaction links are illustrated in the block diagram below:

A new LCW control system server and GUI based on LabVIEW-2014 is deployed for both Indus-1 and Indus-2.
