Invitation of Expression of Interest for Incubation of "Agni Rakshak"- Raman optical fiber based distributed fire sensor system

Prototype and graphical user interface of ‘Agni-Rakshak’ developed at RRCAT

About Technology:

"Agni-Rakshak" is a Raman optical fiber based distributed temperature sensor (DTS) system that measures distributed temperature over long lengths (up to few hundred meters or more). Here, the optical fiber itself acts as an array of distributed sensing elements. The system is very useful in detecting the onset of fire by sensing the heat. It has the capability to provide the information about the location, width and temperature of the fire zone to which the sensing fiber is subjected to. The system can generate the audio-visual alarms for various fire zones in the fiber. The alarm temperature can be programmed by the user.

Applications

Agni-Rakshak finds its applications as distributed fire monitoring system in hospitals, buildings, storage tanks, road & rail tunnels, stations, cable trays of power cables, transformers, coal conveyors, warehousing & storage, cement Industry, oil & gas Industry, nuclear industry, sensitive installations etc.

Advantages:

"Agni-Rakshak" provides the following salient advantages as a distributed fire detector.

  1. Ability to react to distributed and local fire events for rapid action and effective troubleshooting.
  2. Single sensor is able to detect fire over a wide spread area.
  3. Provides information about the onset of fire well before the actual fire takes place.
  4. Hassle free installation, no complex wiring of numerous point sensors. Based on single
  5. fiber optic sensing cable. No individual sensors are required.
  6. Uses optical fiber as passive sensing element, no hazard of fire due to spark in areas
  7. dealing with inflammable material like coal, gasoline, diesel etc.
  8. Effective even in harsh environments of high EMI.

Value Addition:

Successful efforts have been made at laboratory level to develop the prototype model of "Agni-Rakshak" System having above specifications which include sensor length of 200 m and spatial resolution of 2 m and a relatively bigger form factor. It is anticipated that the participating industry will jointly work towards the development & upgradation of economically viable ‘Agni-Rakshak’ system as incubatee with RRCAT under technology incubation provisions of DAE.  The recognition of IC-RRCAT as an Atal Incubation Centre-RRCAT is under stage of approval. This case will be dealt as per the incubation guidelines/ provisions of Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog and DAE.

The incubatee will work in accordance with the user/industry demand. The developed technology, generated experience, and knowhow will be exclusive property of DAE, however, the successful incubatee will be given license to use the developed system as per agreement.

Invitation for Incubation:

The incubation effort is targeted towards the development & upgradation to more user-friendly and better performing "Agni-Rakshak" system with improved specifications on fast-track mode.

In this proposal, Incubation Centre-RRCAT invites industrial partner with good engineering capabilities, requisite infrastructure, and domain knowledge of developing systems for "Agni-Rakshak" system, to participate in this joint developmental effort of DAE.
