Fast Orbit Feedback System (FOFB)

The role of FOFB system is to correct faster orbit deviations beyond what can be handled by SOFB system. A fast orbit feedback system has been developed to work with 56 BPIs with fast electronics and 32 fast corrector power supplies. Presently, 16 BPIs with fast electronics and 16 fast corrector P/Ss are utilized for the fast control of beam position variation around the ring. PID based control algorithm is used to generate corrections at a rate of more than 3kHz. BPI data from 16 BPIs are received on Ethernet link and corrections are sent to PS interface optically using custom protocol. This developed system successfully confined the beam position variations (pk-pk) from ~ ±40μm to ~ ±12μm in horizontal plane and from ~ ±30μm to ~ ±10μm in vertical plane. In this first phase development, noise attenuation of ~5dB at 50Hz has been achieved in both the planes.
