The National Laser Symposium 2003 (NLS-2003) will be
jointly organized by Centre for Advanced
Technology (CAT), Indore, and Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur
at the above stated venue and dates. The NLS – 2003 is being sponsored by the Department
of Atomic Energy – Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (DAE-BRNS). The
objectives of this meet are to provide a forum for professional interaction and
dissemination of information on recent developments in the frontline areas of
lasers and related topics amongst the researchers, teachers and students active
in the field. To meet these objectives deliberations of the symposium will
include plenary talks on state of the art, invited and contributed
presentations by leading experts and young researchers and thesis
presentations. Indian Laser
Association (ILA) will organize short tutorial courses preceding the
symposium. It will also organize a technical exhibition and hold its general
body meeting during this symposium.

The symposium will be held at IIT Kharagpur. Situated about 120km west of
Kolkata, Kharagpur can be reached in about 2.5hrs from the Howrah railway
station of Kolkata by train. Kharagpur
is also connected by direct train services to most major cities of the country.
The institute is located at about 5km from Kharagpur railway station. The nearest airport is NSB Airport, Kolkata.
The weather during December will be cool with lowest
temperature 10+30C and highest temperature 25+30C.

Accommodation
will be arranged mostly in Guest House. Tariffs range between Rs.100/- to 200/-
per day on twin sharing basis and Rs. 300/- for single occupancy. For student
participants, accommodation may be arranged in student hostels.
Financial Assistance
Financial
assistance towards travel by train (Sleeper class) through shortest route and
local hospitality will be provided to a limited number of deserving students
for whom the sponsoring institution is unable to pay.

Registration fee is payable as DD favoring NLS-2003
(National Laser Symposium - 2003) payable at IIT, Kharagpur . The DD
along with the Registration/Booking
of accommodation form (html) should reach the Co-Convener at IIT,
Kharagpur (address given on back side of registration form) latest by October
31, 2003.
Proceedings
The
proceedings of the symposium will be made available to the participants during
the symposium.
Presentation facilities
Arrangements
will be made for projecting 35 mm slides, transparencies and electronic
projections. For each poster presentation, 1m x 1m area will be provided.
