32nd DAE Safety and Occupational Health Professionals Meet from October 5-7, 2015 at RRCAT, Indore

To enrich the safety culture and re-emphasise Department's commitment for safe environment Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), Mumbai & Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), Indore, a premiere centre of Department of Atomic Energy, DAE, jointly organized 32nd DAE Safety & Occupational Health Professionals Meet during October 5-7, 2015 at RRCAT, Indore. The event was inaugurated on October 5, 2015 by Shri S.A. Bhardwaj, Chairman, Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, Mumbai , Chief Guest of the function. Dr. P.D. Gupta , Director, RRCAT presided over the function. Dr. S.M. Oak, Outstanding Scientist & Chairman, Apex Safety Committee convened the meeting. Dr. P.D. Gupta also released the CD of technical proceedings and address the gathering. The theme of the meet "Safety in Evolving and Advanced Technological Applications" & "Positive Health Management" was planned to provide information sharing to improve the safety scenarios in DAE installations and for effective health management of staff. Dr. S. S. Ramaswamy Memorial Endowment Lecture was given by Dr. A.E. Muthunayagam, Former Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India. Several renowned scientists and engineers including Directors of various units of DAE graced the occasion and shared their experiences. There were 8 invited talks and 32 contributed papers from Engineers and Scientists and Physicians and Surgeons of various institutes/organizations. The meet benefitted more than 300 safety professionals including 170 safety professionals from various units of Department of Atomic Energy across the nation. An exhibition was also organized concurrently to display personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety appliances by various manufacturers. The meet organized for thirty second consecutive year created a platform to share experiences, healthy engineering practices, strategy for preventing accidents etc for creating and sustaining safe working conditions without compromising the quality and progress of various activities of the Department. Similarly, topics like Positive Health Management, Prevention of cancer, Occupational stress management, Occupational health safety in laser and accelerator operation and case studies were covered under the Occupational Health category.
